CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

  • In the Career Spotlight sessions, 1 or 2 individuals will share an in-depth look at their career and their path to get there. These discussions will feature ample time for Q&A, with the goal of gaining a full picture of 1 person’s career trajectory, and helping students begin to map out their own career possibilities. For the CS sessions, we bring in individuals who have unique and multifaceted resumes. Even if you do not see yourself in the specific career advertised by the session, we promise that each one will be interesting, educational, and a unique opportunity to speak with entertainment industry professionals.

  • The unique Show Study sessions will focus on 1 Broadway show, and feature a panel of 4-5 professionals who work on that show in an artistic or administrative capacity. Job titles may include performer, director, company manager, producer, social media manager, and more. By focusing on 1 specific production, students will gain a better understanding of how a show “gets made”, and the work that it takes to keep it running on Broadway. Past shows: MJ the Musical, The Outsiders, Days of Wine & Roses

  • Vocal Masterclasses are an opportunity for all students, regardless of major, to work with a NYC-based industry professional on a song of their choice. Some classes will be open, which means other students will be sitting in and observing. Other classes will be closed, which means only the 10-12 participants will be in the room with the faculty, and no other observers. Students who choose the vocal masterclasses will be contacted in early February to choose their faculty and class style. All masterclasses will require you to have at least 2 full songs prepared with a 30-second cut marked. You will likely only perform 1 song, but need to have a second option just in case.

  • TV/Film Masterclasses are an opportunity for all students, regardless of major, to practice performing on-camera, guided by an NYC-based industry professional. These masterclasses will be open, allowing any workshop student to observe. Participants will be provided 2-3 pages of dialogue to familiarize themselves with in advance of the workshop. The exact format will differ based on faculty, but all participating students will be in front of a camera and be able to see themselves onscreen. Students who choose the TV/Film masterclasses will be contacted in early February to choose their faculty and class style.

  • Students will participate in 3-4 hours of programming geared towards non-performance jobs in the entertainment industry. Classes may include tours of industry offices, resume and cover letter advice, mock interviews, 1:1 discussions with industry professionals, and more. This session will be catered specifically to the students who register for it.

  • Structured to feel as close to NYC auditioning as possible, this morning session will give you an opportunity to get on your feet and practice your auditioning skills. As a performer in NYC, 98% of your job is auditioning, and this class will give you feel for a day of auditioning in the ‘real world’. You will be given the option to be in ‘Singer first’ or ‘Dancer first’ auditions, with the opportunity to sing and dance in both sections. As in the real world, individual feedback will be limited. Instead, those behind the table will reflect with the group as a whole after your section finishes singing and/or dancing. These industry professionals will be able to answer questions about the audition process and what to expect. If your goal is to move to NYC and audition for the stage, this is the session for you!

CLASS SCHEDULE

During registration, you will be asked to make initial class selections. As you pick your classes, we encourage you to try new things, while also keeping in mind where you are right now in your career. What classes will be most helpful to you? What skills do you want to grow on a professional level? What careers do you want to learn more about? (And for those taking dance classes, double check how many you’re signing up for back-to-back!)
